Books about space, learning about space, special events such as World Space Week… there is inevitably going to be a reason to do some fun space crafts in the classroom… and this super adorable astronaut craft for kids is the cutest! We had to share this super simple craft activity after discovering the beautiful children’s book – ‘Give me Some Space!’ by Philip Bunting which has been chosen for National Simultaneous Storytime 2021.
Astronaut Craft for Kids
What you need:
- 2 paper plates per student
- silver paint
- nuts and bolts
- photo of each student cut out
- hot glue gun
- PVA glue
- hole punch and string (if you want to hang them up).
How to make our cute astronaut craft:
- Take photos of each of your students and have them printed out ready to go – this will save you a lot of time if you can do this before the craft session.
- Provide each student with two paper plates and have them cut out a smaller circle from one of the paper plates (following the crease is the best bet!)
- Use silver paint to paint the bottom side of the cut-out plate and the middle of the top side of the full plate.
- We added some nuts and bolts using a hot glue gun to the astronaut helmet adding an extra dimension to the craft activity.
- Students glue their photo on top of the full painted plate (in the middle).
- Then glue the paper plate that has the hole cut out upside down on top of the bottom plate (it will all make sense once you check out the photo).

This is the perfect invitation to play for early learners!
Left it a little late and looking for an even easier astronaut craft activity to use in the classroom? Download our black and white version of our Astronaut Template and have students colour in the astronaut. They can then stick their photo inside the helmet of this template.
