11 Fun Easter Bunny Craft Ideas Perfect for the Primary Classroom

Wondering how to mark Easter in your classroom? We’ve pulled together some of our favourite bunny craft activities for the classroom, created by the Teach Starter teacher team to make for a very “hoppy” kick-off to the Easter 2024 season (hey, we had to).

From crafts that help students better understand patterns to some zentangle fun to enhance their ability to focus, the teachers on the Teach Starter team sat down to create some fun and curriculum-aligned bunny crafts perfect for the classroom. Each of these crafts features a bunny, but they can be completed at any time of the year — not just Easter. Because the crafts are not holiday-specific, they are also more inclusive of students who may not celebrate Easter at home. We’ve even added a few curriculum-aligned bunny activities.

Make Paper Bag Bunnies

The humble paper bag can easily transform into an Easter basket, and if you’re planning to hand out little goodies for your students, having them make their own baskets is brilliant. Fold Paper Bunny Rabbit Origami

We could go on for paragraphs about origami’s benefits for kids, but we know you’ve got classroom crafting to do. So, let’s say that origami can help your students with everything from learning to follow step-by-step directions to building a growth mindset.

Our teacher team has put together a long list of origami instruction sheets to try this ancient art form in the classroom, but this time of year, your kids will want to know how to make an origami bunny, and that’s exactly what we suggest you teach around Easter time!

Get Funky With a Bunny Craft Activity

The funky bunny is a bona fide celebrity here at Teach Starter! This adorable funky friend is an Easter teacher staple — he’s been downloaded more than 80,000 times and even spurred us to create a half dozen more ‘funky’ creatures for teachers to use throughout the year. These activities make use of zentangle patterns to spur kids’ creativity and double as a mindfulness activity.

Build an Easter Flower Pot Bunny Craft

Combine this adorable flower pot craft with a planting activity, and watch some seeds sprout out of the top of a chick or bunny!

For this activity, you’ll need:

• Small flower pots
• Construction paper
• Googly eyes
• Sharpie or permanent marker
• Feathers
• Pipe cleaners
• Paint
• Glue

First, choose the main colour for your pot, and paint the outside. When it’s dry, glue on the googly eyes, and draw a mouth and whiskers (if you’re making a rabbit). If you’re making a chick, cut out a diamond shape using construction paper and fold it in half to create a beak.

Fold the pipe cleaners to make a wing shape for the chicks, and cut out ear shapes with the construction paper for the rabbits. You can fill the pots with confetti, or you can use them for seed starters and create some excitement as your students watch their plants grow.

Create Bunny Cups

Do you have heaps of cups left over from classroom parties or parties at home? Put them to work in this bunny craft activity for kids that recycles some standard classroom supplies.

The cups act as the bunny’s face, and students can create ears with construction paper or form them with pipe cleaners. Feeling fancy? Add extra bits of fabric to your little artists’ supplies, and they can cut pieces to fit into their pipe-cleaner ears, gluing the fabric in place.

Best of all, this bunny craft can be created with the lip of the cup on the bottom or flipped over – let your students get creative!

Pull Out a Bunny Mosaic Craft

Did you know the word mosaic comes from the Latin museum? You may not have time to visit an art museum this spring with your class, but setting aside an hour for this mosaic bunny craft can help them practice counting and sorting and hone those focusing skills while they’re at it.

Mosaics have been used for thousands of years to create works of art as well as decorate buildings and other structures, so why not introduce your students to this age-old art form with an Easter craft that encourages them to focus on carefully arranging colourful pieces of paper to create the perfect bunny art? You may like to have students work in small groups on their mosaics, practising cooperation and teamwork to complete their artwork.

More Bunny Activities for Kids

Looking to go beyond the crafts? There are plenty of ways to bring spring into the classroom with a bunny focus that are curriculum-aligned, too.

Make it About Mammals

Bunnies are mammals, after all, so why not put these animals into your science lesson planning? Year 1 students can label the basic parts of the bunny, Year 2 students can discuss how a bunny’s physical characteristics help them meet their basic needs (e.g. legs for hopping, white fur to blend in with the environment, etc.), and your Year 4 class can dive into the bunny’s place on the food web!

Consider reaching out to the Junior Farmers Club in your area to find out if someone can bring a real bunny into the classroom to teach students more about how wild bunnies survive, what their habitats are like and what they eat!

Explore Bunny Symmetry

Expand your students’ knowledge of symmetry using our Symmetry Grid Worksheets. By colouring in the mirroring squares, the mystery rabbit will eventually take shape! This is a perfect way to combine maths with Easter art. Finished mirrored images can even be made into greeting cards for loved ones.

As an extension activity, have students determine the fraction, decimal, and percentage of each colour, or write the colours as ratios.

Colour by Number Activity

From Funky Bunny to Colour the Bunny! Use this engaging multiplication activity in the days leading up to Easter.

Students will solve the problems and colour the picture using a colour key. If they are correct, the mystery picture will appear!  This download includes an answer sheet for your students to self-check their answers.

Make 3D Bunnies in Maths

Are you talking about 3D objects like cubes and cylinders in your maths classes? Create visual representations of the concept with this bunny craft activity — 3D bunnies — to add a holiday element to the lesson that’s curriculum-aligned and will ensure your students are all ears!

You can print the 3D bunny nets here, and then have your students label the various attributes/features (faces, edges, vertices) to show their understanding of the subject. The little bunnies can be taken home or kept on students’ desks as ‘pets.’
