What Animals Are Native to Australia?
The Australian continent is home to more than 200 000 different species, and we have many creatures that can only be found right here in our nation. That means they're what we call native species, a way to describe an animal that is naturally found in a particular ecosystem.
From marsupials to reptiles to birds, here is a list of some of the better-known native Australian animals that you might use in your lesson planning. To make it easier, we've listed the animals from A to Z.

What Australian Animals Are Endangered?
Unfortunately there are a number of Australian animals that make conservation experts' lists of endangered animals. Here is the official list of all 10 endangered Australian creatures.

What Australian Animals Are Extinct?
Perhaps even more troubling than the fact that so many of our native animals are endangered is the fact that many more are considered extinct.
The Aussie government officially lists 100 of Australia’s native species as extinct. That means Australia has thehighest mammal extinction rate in the world.
