What Is 100 Days of School?
Although it started in America, 100 Days of School has become a milestone that many schools celebrate in Australia and around the world.
The tradition typically takes place around the 100th day of the school year (hence the name), and it is a way to mark the progress that students have made and to celebrate the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers.
When Is 100 Days of School in Australia?
The exact 100th day of your school year depends on when your first day of school was, of course! That day varies across Australia, and it will typically fall near the end of term 2 or near the start of term 3.
What to Do for 100 Days of School
There are a variety of ways that you may choose to celebrate the 100th day of school with your class. We have filled this teacher-created resource collection with tonnes of ideas, craft and activities, but we didn't stop there!
Here are a few more fun ideas:
- Students counting to 100 — This can be done as a class, in small groups, or individually. Students can use various manipulatives (e.g. counters, blocks, etc.) or drawings to help them count to 100.
- 100th day projects – Students may be asked to create a project that involves the number 100 in some way. This could include making a collage of 100 objects, writing a story with 100 words, or creating a necklace with 100 beads.
- Dress-up – Students and teachers may be encouraged to dress up as if they were 100 years old.
- 100th day of school parade – This can be a fun way to celebrate and give students an opportunity to show off their 100th day of school projects.
- Class discussion and brainstorming around how many days left to end of the school year, discussing and setting goal for the coming days, reflect on the things they have learned and what they want to learn next.
Overall, the 100th day of school is a fun and engaging way to celebrate student progress and create a sense of community within the classroom. It gives you an opportunity to infuse number sense and mathematical concepts in creative ways.
While planning and preparing activities, you could also focus on learning objectives and standards you want to cover, like counting, number recognition and representation, patterns, addition and subtraction.
