Why Are the Parts of the Clock So Important?
Can your students identify the various parts of a clock? Do they know how to tell the hour hand and the minute hand from one another?
Learning the names and purpose of each component of a clock lays the foundation for learning to tell the time, of course, and it will become crucial for understanding elapsed time. But being able to tell the minute hand from the hour hand and identify the time can help our students build their time management skills, too. As they come to understand the movement of the clock hands and what it means, our students are also developing their sense of chronological order. In turn this helps them with organising their tasks and activities in a logical sequence, enhancing their ability to manage their time efficiently.
In other words? We’re not just meeting specific curriculum standards when we’re teaching the different parts of the analogue clock, but we’re also equipping our students with practical skills that are relevant to their daily lives!
