What Is National NAIDOC Week?
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, so it's probably no surprise that NAIDOC Week is also known as National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee Week.
Held each year across Australia, this observance is designed to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It dates back to 1991 when the committee formerly known as the National Aborigines Day Observance Committee (NADOC) became known as the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) and the public holiday then celebrated as National Aborigines Day was expanded to an entire week. Part of the change was respectfully acknowledging the now defunct and inaccurate term 'Aborigines.'
When Is NAIDOC Week 2025?
NAIDOC Week is held annually on the first week in July, and it is designed to include the second Friday of the month.
This year the National NAIDOC Committee has announced it will be observed 6 – 13 July 2025.
What Is the NAIDOC Week 2025 Theme?
The National NAIDOC Theme for 2025 has not been released yet. We will update this page as soon as it has been released.
