Bring World Landmarks to Life in the Classroom!

As teachers, we are often so focused on covering the curriculum that topics we might consider ‘general knowledge’ fall by the wayside!

And so it is with famous world landmarks. Do our students know that the Nile is the longest river in the world, or that the Golden Gate Bridge can be found in the Californian city of San Francisco? These facts might not be specifically listed in our curriculum standards, but they definitely help our students develop a broader understanding of the world beyond their immediate environment.

This world landmarks fact file pack has been created by the Teach Starter team to help your students learn a little more about some of the most famous natural and human-made landmarks on our planet. Each fact file features ten student‑friendly facts about the landmark supported by engaging photos, maps and diagrams. The resource pack also includes a set of 15 generic comprehension questions, carefully balanced across literal, inferential and evaluative thinking, as well as a bank of open-ended follow‑up activities that extend learning across English, Maths, History, Geography, Science and The Arts.

The eight natural and human-made landmarks featured in this pack are:

  • The Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • The Nile River
  • The Amazon Rainforest
  • Burano
  • The Global Seed Vault
  • The Golden Gate Bridge
  • Mauna Kea
  • Mount Fuji

Texts differ in their level of detail and readability, making them ideal for differentiation.
