Halloween is approaching, and it’s time to bring a little spookiness right into the classroom! 

Halloween Mystery Pictures for the Win

Through this Halloween maths activity, students will show they can use addition strategies to add two-digit numbers within 100 through understanding place value and composing 10. These worksheets require students to solve problems involving two-digit addition without regrouping.

Provide each student with a copy of the hidden picture grid and accompanying colour key.. Students will also need a sheet of scrap paper to work out each of the problems.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips 

Support students who need help understanding the concepts using base-ten blocks to model the addends. They can also use a number, line, or hundreds chart to help find the sum. 

Challenge fast finishers who already understand the concept to write word problems that practice the addition problems from the task cards.
