Retell Worksheets Using the 5 Finger Retell Strategy

This set of worksheets matches our 5 Finger Retell Interactive Activity and can be used with this interactive activity. Alternatively, you can use these worksheets separately. A teacher has carefully created this set of 5 simple texts for those at the beginning stages of retelling stories.

Included in this set of retelling worksheets are:

  • Five simple texts.
  • 1 x cut-and-paste style worksheet for the first text using images only.
  • 4 x fill in the graphic organiser style worksheet for the final four texts.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

As teachers, we know that we will have a mixture of abilities in our class when it comes to a range of topics. Teaching retell is one that students sometimes find tricky, particularly those that are struggling with their reading skills. For students who may find this activity a little overwhelming, you may like to put them together in a small group and allow them more time to read, or perhaps read the short text to them first.

For those students who are ready, they can read the text themselves. For fast finishers, why not get them to write their own simple narrative for a friend to retell.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

This resource is available to download as a PDF. For the last four worksheets, you may like to place them into a clear plastic write and wipe and have students use whiteboard markers to save on printing the paper time and time again.
