Teach when to use A or An as an article with a printable pack of 'A or An' Worksheets.
When Do You Use A or An? A Common Student Struggle
🙋Raise your hand if your students struggle with using “a” and “an” correctly. It’s a pretty common hurdle in the early years. The main issue is figuring out when to use “a” versus “an.” You teach the basic rule: “a” goes before words that start with a consonant sound, and “an” goes before words that start with a vowel sound. So, we say “a cat” but “an apple.”
But for kids, this isn’t always so clear-cut. They might get tripped up by words that start with a silent letter or unusual sounds. And then, of course, English has its fair share of exceptions and tricky words that can make it even more confusing.
