While slowly creating your sloth resources, we’ve discovered a few fun facts about sloths that we couldn’t help sharing!
- Sloths are slow-moving animals and can move at a speed of only about 30cm per minute.
- They sleep for about 15 to 20 hours a day and spend most of their lives hanging upside down in trees.
- Sloths have razor-sharp claws that they use to grip tree branches and bark, and also to defend themselves.
- Sloths have a three-part stomach that is specially adapted to digest their tough, fibrous diet of leaves and twigs.
- They have a symbiotic relationship with algae, which grows in their fur and provides them with camouflage.
- Sloths are good swimmers and are able to hold their breath underwater for up to 40 minutes.
- Sloths are known for their slow movements and relaxed demeanour, but they are also capable of quick and powerful movements when necessary.
- There are six different species of sloths, including the two-toed and three-toed sloth, and they are found in Central and South America.
