Author’s Purpose Activity – Digital Task Cards

This Author’s Purpose Activity in digital form has been designed to make learning about author’s purpose engaging and fun. This set of slides helps students to develop a deeper understanding of why author’s write texts: to persuade, inform and to entertain. Students are guided through a variety of drag and drop and typing in text box activities that require them to do the following:

  • Identify if statements about the author’s purpose are true or false.
  • Identify and sort author’s purpose in different sentences or book titles.
  • Sort sentences based on their purpose
  • Explain their reasoning for classifying texts
