How to Use this Phoneme Blending Activity in the Classroom

This set of six chatterbox templates can be used in a variety of ways in the classroom to help students along their reading journey and practise their word blending skills, here are a few suggestions:

  • Provide each student with the same (or different) templates and as a class work together to create their chatterbox. Before folding – you may like to get your students to colour the images as this will be easier when it’s flat. In pairs, get students to take turns blending the CVC words out loud.
  • Create the chatterbox at school and send it home for homework – students can practise blending the CVC words with their family.
  • Set them up at the classroom door, and have students blend a word as they come into the classroom. This is also a great way for you to monitor their progress when it comes to blending CVC words.
