PEMDAS vs. BOMDAS Acronym
What is BOMDAS? It is an acronym for the steps in the order of operations, which are as follows:
B – Brackets
O – Orders (exponents, square roots, indices)
M – Multiplication
D – Division
A – Addition
S – Subtraction
Multiplication and division are done in the same step (from left to right in the equation), as are addition and subtraction.
You may have also seen the acronym PEMDAS from time-to-time. This is the same procedure, but reflects different terms that can be used for brackets and orders.
P – Parenthesis
E – Exponents
M – Multiplication
D – Division
A – Addition
S – Subtraction
As with BOMDAS, multiplication and division are done in the same step from left to right in the equation, as are addition and subtraction.
