Celebrate Great Literature in Your Classroom

Great authors have the ability to transport us into new worlds through the creation of rich characters and compelling storylines. These authors capture our hearts and minds… as we read their books, we grow as people and are inspired to take on new challenges.

To celebrate all things literature, we’ve created this versatile set of book-inspired task cards. And the beauty is, these activities can be used with any piece of literature that you have read to the students, or that they themselves have read independently!

Explore Narrative Elements in Literature

You’ll find a diverse range of literature tasks within this set of 24 task cards! The tasks cover multiple narrative elements, such as plot, character, setting and vocabulary.

Here are some examples of the kinds of tasks include in this resource:

  • Use a map to trace the journey of a character in a book and create a visual representation of their travels.
  • Write a letter to your favourite author, telling them what you love about their work and asking them a question.
  • Write a short story using only 50 words. Be as creative as you can to make it interesting!
  • Choose a book you enjoyed and design a new cover for it. Include the title, author name and an eye-catching image.
  • Draw a picture of your favourite scene from a book and write a short description of what is happening.

Whether you use the task cards as a whole-class activity, small-group or independent activity, you’re sure to celebrate great literature in style this Book Week!
