Pair Your Display With Fun Australian Camping Classroom Theme Ideas

Looking for ideas for blending the Australian Outback with your camping theme? Check out the Australian Camping Classroom theme ideas below!

  • Outback Reading Corner –Transform a section of your classroom into a cozy Outback camping retreat where students can curl up with a book. Set up a small tent, like a play tent or one made from lightweight fabric and poles, to give it a real camping vibe. In front of the tent, create a “campfire” using scrunched orange, red, and yellow tissue paper for flames, arranged on cardboard or real sticks to resemble logs.
  • Campsite Table Markers –Bring the spirit of the Australian outback to your classroom tables by naming each one after a famous landmark. Create table signs featuring photographs places like Uluru, Kakadu National Park, the Great Barrier Reef, or the Daintree Rainforest. Add details about the location, like a fun fact or its Aboriginal significance, to turn the markers into a learning opportunity. Use miniature “wooden posts” (crafted from cardboard tubes) to display the signs, mimicking trail signs found in the bush.
  • Campfire Stories Display – Set up a creative writing station that feels like a storytelling area around the campfire. Create a fake campfire in the centre with tissue paper flames and cardboard logs, then surround it with a circular bulletin board or display for students’ writing. Use fire-shaped paper or “story sparks” cards with writing prompts to encourage their imagination. You could even call it the “Campfire Tales Zone” to inspire students to let their creativity shine.
  • Glow Worm Cave Corner –Create an enchanted corner inspired by the glowworm caves of Australia. Use fabric or dark-coloured paper to drape over a small niche or table, making it feel enclosed like a cave. Add strands of fairy lights to mimic the bioluminescent glow of glowworms, and scatter small rock cutouts or paper stalactites for extra detail. This could be a calming area for quiet activities, reading, or mindfulness breaks.
  • Boomerang Recognition Board –Celebrate student achievements with a lively boomerang-themed display. Cut out large, colorful boomerang shapes from cardboard or foam board, and assign one to each student. Decorate the boomerangs with fun patterns to color or let the students design their own. Display them on a board labelled “Boomerang of Brilliance” or “Achievements That Come Back Around,” and write accomplishments or goals met on each boomerang.
