Explore Character Traits, Motivations and Feelings

Characters are fundamental to any story. When analysing story characters, it is important for students to consider both internal and external characteristics.

Use this worksheet for independent practice after your students become familiar with the literary elements of fiction text, specifically, how characters evolve through a story.

After discussing characters and their motives as a class, give students time to answer the worksheet questions individually or together in small groups. The worksheets focus on:

  • Character motives
  • Character challenges
  • Character motives

Because of the personalised nature of the questions, an answer key is not included in this worksheet.
