Change Up Your Gift Exchange With Fun Pass the Parcel Ideas!

The holidays are nearly here, and teachers worldwide are gearing up for all the holiday shenanigans, crafts, and games they can find. This year, we invite you to change things up and add a new game to put a fun spin on your classroom gift exchange!

This printable resource includes four variations of ‘Pass the Parcel’ games for students to play in class this holiday season. Instead of your standard gift exchange, use these Christmas Dice Games and Pass the Parcel Readings for more fun!

How to Play Pass the Parcel

Since this resource contains four variations of the Pass the Parcel game, look below for instructions on using each version.

  • Left-Right Christmas Game

      •  For this game, boys will need to bring one boy gift, and girls will bring one girl gift. Divide the students into two groups, boys and girls – and have them sit in two circles. Read aloud the story, and as they hear the words LEFT and RIGHT read aloud, they pass the gift in that direction. When the story is over, the gift they are holding is the one they get to open!
  • Christmas Dice Game Sweet Exchange

      • Each group of students will need a small bag of candy. Sit in a circle. Each student starts with five treats and places the rest in the middle. Each student rolls a die and looks at the number. They must then follow the action of the number rolled. You can set a timer for them to play for a certain amount of time. At the end of time, the treats held by each student are the ones they get to keep!
  • The Night Before Christmas Pass the Parcel Game

      • Follow the same instructions as the Left-Right Christmas Game using the Night Before Christmas poem.
  • Pass the Parcel Christmas Dice Game

    •  For this game, boys will need to bring one boy gift, and girls will bring one girl gift. Divide the students into two groups, boys and girls – and have them sit in two circles. Each student rolls a die and looks at the number. The group must then follow the action of the number rolled. You can set a timer for them to play for a certain amount of time. At the end of time, the gift held by each student is the one they get to keep!
