Build Classroom Relationships with a Morning Class Meeting

Starting the school day with classroom meetings is a fantastic tool to assist students’ social and emotional development. Running class meetings can create an open environment where students feel safe to explore their emotions, concerns and connect with their peers. This set of Google Slides or PowerPoint Slides can assist with daily classroom meetings.

Included in this template are a variety of Good Morning slides that are perfect to have showing as your students enter the classroom. And some nice prompts, questions and activities that can be used to ease your students into the school day and connect with them to see how they are travelling with their emotions.

How to Run a Class Meeting

How you run a class meeting may be a little different to how the teacher next door will run a meeting as it depends on the students in your class. Here are some tips:

  • Having a ‘set’ agenda of things that you do each meeting will create routine and students will know what to expect.
  • Ensure your students understand and use respectful communication skills.
  • Some teachers find using a ‘talking’ ball is a great way to ensure each student has the space to talk. When a student is holding the ball they are the only ones that are allowed to talk.
  • Having a spot for ‘call outs’ – a way for students to call out nice and friendly behaviour.
  • Focus on solutions – if problems arise in discussion – talk with the students about how issues could be fixed or how something could be done differently.

Hi! Is there a Powerpoint version of these slides. It's only giving me the Google slide option. Thanks!
