Practise comparing and ordering the lengths of objects with a set of printable informal measurement task cards.
Get Moving While Measuring and Comparing Length
The fast-paced nature of today’s classrooms makes it tricky to engage students in meaningful learning. While measurement is a core concept in maths and science, teaching it in a way that engages young learners requires creativity and innovation. That’s where active learning comes into play. Active learning can make measurement more engaging by providing students with room to move, talk, and apply their knowledge.
Measuring & Comparing Length Task Cards for Year 2
This printable set of task cards is designed to serve as an active game of SCOOT! for students to practise measuring and comparing length using nonstandard units such as paper clips and snap cubes. We have included 24 engaging task cards and a recording sheet with rigorous (and year-appropriate) problems for students to solve whilst moving around the classroom. With these cards, students will solve problems that require them to:
- Look at an example of incorrect measurement and tell what went wrong
- Measure an object using informal units such as paper clips or snap cubes
- Answer ‘how many more’ type questions that compare two objects measured with informal units
- Order a series of three objects by length or size
We have also included an answer key for easy grading.
