Practise comparing and contrasting the mass of objects as shown on balance scales with this set of mass measurement worksheets.

Let’s Compare the Mass of Objects Using Balance Scales

This set of two worksheets has been created by a teacher to allow students to practice their ability to compare and contrast real-life objects using images of balance scales. Each worksheet features balance scales with various objects being heavier, lighter and the same. Students are encouraged to use this language to compare the mass of these objects.

These worksheets encourage conversation and students using the terms such as heavier and lighter to describe the mass of different objects.

Mass Measurement Vocabulary

Some of the mass vocabulary that your students may use or should be encouraged to use include the following terms:

Mass, gram, kilogram, weight, balance, weight, balance, heavy, light, scale, weigh, measurement. Encourage your students to articulate what each of these terms mean and use them in context. You may like to create a mass vocabulary wall for your students to refer to during these lessons.
