Complete and Incomplete Sentences Task Cards

Students will read a sentence or phrase, then mark the sentence as complete or incomplete on the answer sheet. An answer key is included with this resource so that students can self-check their answers after completing all tasks.

These task cards are the perfect tool to help students practice identifying complete and incomplete sentences. They can be used in a whole group, small group, or individual setting to help students gain confidence with this vital skill.

Scaffolding and Extension Tips 

Have you got fast finishers? Challenge students who grasp the concept by asking them to finish the incomplete sentences. Students can also add sentences and make their sort.

Support struggling students by limiting the number of sentences or using this worksheet as an intervention activity or with your guided writing group. 

A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Sentence Structure Resource

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend printing one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank recording sheet for students to complete.  

You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies of the recording sheet on cardstock and slip them into dry-erase sleeves. Students can record their answers with a dry-erase marker, then erase and reuse them. 

Additionally, project the task cards onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
