Two Combined Words = 1 Compound Word

Did you know that there were different types of compound words? It’s true!  A compound word is a word type where two or more words are combined to form a word or phrase with a new meaning. They fall into three groups: open, such as living room; closed, such as doghouse; and hyphenated, such as mother-in-law. Compound words are quite often some of the first multisyllable words that students learn to read, so you have to make your lessons meaningful and your practise activities thorough.
