Engage students in practising their learning around the consonant digraph of ‘ng’ with this fun playground-themed interactive activity.

Practise Identifying the Ng Consonant Digraph

The “ng” digraph is a combination of two letters, ‘n’ and ‘g,’ that together represent a distinct sound. This sound is a nasal sound, and it is commonly found at the end of English words. This digraph is typically introduced in the beginning stages of phonics education. This fun playground-themed interactive activity has been created by an experienced teacher with little learners at the forefront of the design.

The activities students will complete include:

  1. Look at pictures, decide if the object contains the ‘ng’ sound, and use a tick or a cross to show their understanding.
  2. Sorting words into a ‘ng’ list and a ‘not ng’ list.
  3. Type in the correct word in for a set of four pictures, including – slingshot, king, long, and spring.
  4. Read a simple sentence that contains a word with the ‘ng’ digraph and match an image to each sentence.
  5. Sorting real and nonsense words that include the ‘ng’ digraph.
  6. Look at pictures and decide which word matches the image. x 4.
  7. Finding ‘ng’ digraph in a small paragraph of writing.
  8. Plus more!
