Use this subitising game to help your students instantly recognise the numbers 1 - 6.
❤️ Subitising For Number Recognition
Print the subitising game board and die on cardboard and use it in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day!
Students play the game in pairs. Each student gets a Cover Up! game board and a set of counters to play with. Students take turns rolling the heart die, saying the number rolled and covering one of the matching numbers on their game board. The student to cover all of their numbers first wins!
By completing this activity, students demonstrate an ability to subitise numbers 1-6.
Scaffolding + Extension Tips
In addition to individual student work time, use this number recognition game as a:
- Small Group activity
- Maths Warm-up activity
- Brain Break
- Fast Finisher activity
Students who need a challenge can play each other using the same game board. The first student to call out the number gets to cover a matching number with their manipulative. The student who covers the most hearts at the end of the game wins!
