Practise determining a pattern and next value in a numerical sequence of decimals to the hundredths place.
Add and Subtract Decimals to Determine a Number Pattern
Are your students working on adding and subtracting decimals? If so, this skill can be used to determine and complete various decimal number patterns. Teach Starter has created a set of unique, differentiated worksheets to use in your classroom! This worksheet set has three different levels, each marked with stars on either side of the title.
To complete this activity, students must match each question on the left (marked with a number) to each solution on the right (marked with a letter). They must then use these matching letters and numbers to fill in the answer to the math joke at the bottom of the page.
These decimal number patterns worksheets download as either a printable PDF or an editable Google Slides file. An answer key is included with your download to make marking fast and easy!
Additional Differentiation for These Decimal Number Patterns
While these worksheets already come in three differentiated levels, you may be keen to further challenge or support particular students in your class. Here are some suggestions from our experienced teacher team:
- Challenge students by encouraging them to make a “Which One Doesn’t Belong” Game. Have students create four numerical sequences for the same pattern, three correct and one incorrect. Then, they can trade with a classmate and determine which sequence is incorrect.
- Support students by allowing them to work one-on-one or in a small group, allow calculator use or modify the numbers for complexity level. Level 1 (indicated by 1 star next to the title) should be used with students struggling with the concept.
Download and Print to Add and Subtract Decimals
Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between the printable PDF or editable Google Slides version of this resource.
Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.
Turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity by printing on cardstock and slipping it into a dry erase sleeve. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse them. Alternatively, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their workbooks.
