  • Reference during writing activities – Students can use the word mats to help them incorporate accurate vocabulary when writing reports or adding entries in their science journals.
  • Guided discussions – Use the mats as a tool during whole-class or individual discussions about rocks and minerals, encouraging students to use the vocabulary in context. These are perfect tools for students learning English as a Second Language!
  • Word wall additions – Display the word mats in a visible area of the classroom as part of a word wall or vocabulary centre to reinforce the vocabulary throughout the unit.
  • Vocabulary games – Turn the word mats into a fun matching game or quiz, challenging students to match the descriptive words with samples of rocks and minerals.
