Draw a Figure with a Given Perimeter
Using informal units such as squares can be a great way to introduce measurement concepts such as perimeter and area to your students. Once students feel confident finding the perimeter and area of shapes by counting these informal units, they can then move on to standard units such as the metric system.
This perimeter of rectangles worksheet has been designed by our experienced team of teachers to provide your students with practice drawing a figure with a given perimeter. The worksheet contains ten friendly little robots (which we’ve affectionately named ‘Perimeter Pals.’ The students are required to draw a shape using the grid inside each Perimeter Pal with a specified perimeter.
This perimeter of rectangles worksheet includes 10 questions spanning two pages. An answer key is also included in the download to make marking quick and easy!
This drawing perimeter worksheet comes in four different file options. These are:

Extend These Drawing Perimeter Worksheets
Are you looking for ways to support the needs of all students while using these drawing perimeter worksheets? Here are a few suggestions:
- Support with Side Lengths – If you have students who require some additional support in order to complete this drawing perimeter worksheet, then we suggest providing one of the side lengths. This will then make it a little easier for the students to work out how long the other sides of the rectangle need to be.
- Extend with an Open-Ended Challenge – If you have students who thrive when given a challenge, then we suggest asking these students to draw as many different shapes as possible that have the same perimeter.
