How Do You Keep Up With EAL/D Accommodations in the Classroom?

It can be really challenging to keep track of all the different accommodations needed for EAL/D students in the classroom. Understanding each student’s unique needs and making sure they’re getting the right support while also covering the curriculum is a lot to handle. Every student may require different types of instructional modification, and it can be overwhelming to manage on top of all of your other teaching responsibilities. This year we want to ease your workload and help create an inclusive and supportive environment for all students with printable teacher organisation tools from Teach Starter.

One good rule of thumb for keeping up with EAL/D accommodations is to sit down at the beginning of the year with student test data, permanent records, etc., and identify which accommodations are required and which ones may be beneficial to add or remove for your grade-level content. With that data in hand, it will be easy to create an Accommodations-at-a-Glance worksheet for each student needing classroom modifications. Once you’ve got that in place, tuck it inside your binder or planner and then you have everything at hand when you need to plan for instruction, reteaching, and testing.
