Challenge your students to use rounding and benchmark values to estimate sums and differences of decimals with this set of 24 task cards.
Estimation With Decimals – Let’s Break it Down!
When teaching students about estimating with decimals, students can use a few different methods. One way is using their knowledge of rounding to make each number an easy whole number to work with. A second method is to use benchmark values. This type of estimation involves using whole numbers and those with 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75. When using benchmark values, the hope is that the estimated sum or difference will be closer to the actual answer.
