Use this resource as a scaffolded writing activity when teaching your students about explanation writing.

Explanation texts describe how and why something works or how and why an event occurs. This informative prompt guides students through researching, planning and writing an explanation text called How Does the Water Cycle Work?

The students will need to:

  • research the topic
  • record dot-point notes on the template provided
  • write up their text in complete sentences on the scaffold provided.

A diagram of the process has been included to help students better understand it and stimulate some initial ideas for their writing.
