Boost critical thinking skills with this fact or opinion worksheet pack featuring five engaging worksheets where students colour-code fact and opinion sentences.
Teach Language Analysis with This Fact or Opinion Worksheet Pack
The ability to differentiate between facts and opinions is essential for critical thinking. Facts can be proven true or false, while opinions express personal beliefs. It is not always easy to tell the difference, therefore, it is important to explicitly teach this skill to our students.
This fact or opinion worksheet pack has been designed by our team to help your students practise identifying fact and opinion statements in the context of real texts. The pack features five different age-appropriate texts on a variety of everyday topics. Students are required to read the text, then colour the facts and opinions using the code provided. By associating different colours with facts and opinions, students can start to recognise patterns and strengthen their understanding of the concept.
The five texts featured in these fact and opinion worksheets are:
- Milkshakes
- Dogs
- Roller Coasters
- Playing Sport
- Cooking
This resource downloads as a PDF or editable Google Slides file. The download also includes an answer key to make marking fast and easy.

Versatile Fact and Opinion Worksheets for Various Classroom Activities
This set of fact and opinion worksheets can be used for direct instruction, guided practice or independent learning. Here’s a breakdown of how you might use these worksheets for a literacy group session:
- Divide the students into mixed-ability groups of 3–4. Provide each student with a copy of one of the texts from the pack. Have them paste the text into their workbooks.
- Have the students read the entire text together without stopping. Then, have them reread the text one sentence at a time, deciding if each is a fact or opinion through collaborative discussion.
- Once finished, bring the class back together and reread the text aloud. Call on each group in turn to share whether the sentence is a fact or an opinion. Encourage the students to provide justification for their decisions.
