Observing Rocks and Soils – Foundation Year Science Worksheets

Introduce your foundation year students to the wonders of the natural world with these fun and easy-to-use preschool science worksheets! Perfect for little learners, these printable foundation year / kindergarten science activities help students use their observation skills to learn about and describe the rocks and soils they see around them.

Through simple cut-and-paste classification tasks, your students will begin to recognise examples of rocks and soils and describe their unique features. These worksheets are designed to build early science skills and promote curiosity about the earth beneath their feet. To complete these activities, students will cut and paste images to classify examples of rocks and soils. As described below, we have included four printable science worksheets for foundation year students in this download.

  • Is It a Rock? Worksheet – Cut and paste examples of rocks and non-examples.
  • Rock, Soil, or Water? Cut and paste examples of rocks, soils and water.
  • What’s In Our Soil? Worksheet – Cut and paste pictures of things that are in soil and things that are not in soil.
  • Describing Rocks Worksheet – Cut and paste to identify rocks that are bumpy and smooth.
