Print a four seasons spinner activity to expand students' understanding of the different times of the year.
Spin Through Teaching the Four Seasons
Add a playful twist to your next four seasons lesson, and help kinesthetic learners thrive with this fun spinner activity designed to help students better understand all four seasons, their characteristics, and which months correspond to each season!
This printable activity includes two colourful pages (although a black-and-white version is also available). One page is used as the top circle of the spinner, and the second page is the bottom circle which will be revealed as students rotate the top to reveal a new season and information about that season, including the three months that correspond to that time of year.
How to Use a Seasons Spinner in the Classroom
Looking for some fresh ideas to use your spin activity? Try these!
- Practise Narrative Writing — Students can give it a spin and then write a story about what they like to do during the season that the spinner has revealed. Encourage students to use information they have learned about that particular season, such as the weather conditions that will occur, what animals they will see outside and what celebrations will occur.
- Brain Breaks — Mix up your brain breaks with some seasons inspiration. Students can spin the spinner and then do a quick movement break based on the season they land on. For example, students can pretend to ice skate if the spinner lands on winter or decorate an imaginary Christmas tree if the spinner lands on summer.
- Art Class — Inspire your little artists to create colourful scenes based on the season from their spinner. Students should include items in their drawings that show they understand the characteristics of the season.
How to Create Your Seasons Spinner
To download a PDF version of the spinner template, select ‘colour’ or ‘black-and-white’ from the drop-down button beside the download button.
Print each circle on thick card, and use a split pin through the middle of both circles to create your spinner.
It would be great if we could add another ring with the Aboriginal seasons to easily integrate the overarching curriculum :)
Hi Nichole, what a great idea! I'll see what our designers can do and let you know.
