Practise shading in shapes to represent a fraction and partitioning objects with these basic fraction worksheets.
Fractions for Year 2
When students are first diving into the concept of fractions, they first need to understand how to determine if parts of a shape are equal or unequal, as well as how to understand the meaning of one-fourth, one-half, etc. Students in this year level also work on partitioning shapes into equal parts.
With the one-star version of this worksheet, students will practise colouring in one-half and one-fourth of different shapes. They also will practise partitioning shapes and shading in a given amount.
On the two-star version, students will partition all of the shapes and colour in a given fractional amount.
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:
- Guided maths groups
- Lesson warm-up
- Lesson wrap-up
- Fast finishers
- Homework assignment
- Whole-class review (via smartboard)
If there are students that need an additional challenge, encourage them to complete the two-star version. Students can also work on writing fractions in number form as well as representing them on a number line.
For students who need additional support, consider assigning the one-star version. Additionally, encourage students to complete the worksheet with a peer tutor or a teacher.
