Authentic Friendly Letter Examples for Your Students
Is the art of writing an engaging letter a redundant skill in the 21st century? Here at Teach Starter, we say certainly not!
To help your students master this life skill, our team has created these friendly letter examples to make it easier for students to learn the correct structure of letters. This resource includes five age-appropriate sample letters that clearly demonstrate the key parts of a friendly letter. With both labelled and unlabelled versions, students can study a completed model or actively identify and label each section themselves.
The key parts of a letter featured in this friendly letter example pack are:
- Heading
- Date
- Greeting
- Body
- Closing
- Signature
- Postscript
Answer sheets are also provided in the download.
This friendly letter example pack downloads as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides digital document. It is the perfect resource to help students build confidence in writing personal letters while also learning proper formatting.
Using These Examples of Friendly Letters in Your Lessons
These examples of friendly letters can be used in various ways during your unit on letter writing. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
- Direct Instruction – Project one of the labelled friendly letter examples on your interactive whiteboard and use it for direct instruction on parts of a letter.
- Independent Work – Once the students are familiar with the parts of a letter, provide one of the unlabelled versions for them to complete independently.
- Writing Activity – Have students choose one of the friendly letter examples and respond to it by writing their own example of a friendly letter.
