Using These Function Machines Match-Up Cards
These function machine cards can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some ideas on how to use them to enhance your lessons on number patterns:
- Partner Hunt – Count enough machine/table card pairs for every student in your class. Mix the pairs and give one to each student. Ask students to stand up and search for their mystery partner who has the matching card.
- Maths Stations – This function machine matching game works wonderfully in a maths station as the answer key makes it self-checking. Print the cards on cardboard and laminate them to use them in your stations for years!
- Memory – Students can use these cards to play a game of ‘Memory.’ To play, they spread the function machine cards and the table cards out in separate areas, facing down. Students then turn over one of each card, trying to find a match. If they find a match, they keep the pair, otherwise they turn the cards back over. Students take turns flipping card pairs and the student with the most pairs at the end wins!
