Gravity Facts for Year 4

Once your students have an understanding of the concept of a force (a push or pull that makes an object move or change direction), they’ll be ready to explore some of the more common forces we engage with in our everyday lives in greater detail. One of these forces is the force of gravity. Gravity is a noncontact force that pulls objects towards each other.

This informative classroom poster has been designed by our teacher team to teach your students some key facts about gravity. These are:

  • Gravity pulls objects toward the ground.
  • Gravity keeps our feet on the ground.
  • Gravity affects how much objects weigh.
  • Gravity keeps moons and planets in orbit.

This gravity poster downloads as a full-colour or black-and-white PDF or editable Google Slides file. It will make a great addition to your classroom bulletin board during your exploration of forces such as gravity!

Use This Gravity Poster in Your Science Lessons

While this gravity poster makes a great reference when it comes to helping your students remember key facts about gravity, it can be used in other ways during your science lessons on forces. Here is one suggestion from our teacher team:

Place your students into small groups, then assign each group one fact from the gravity poster. As a team, each group must research the fact they have been assigned in greater detail using age-appropriate research materials, such as books and websites. Students could then write their new discoveries on sticky notes, then display them around the relevant poster fact, or link them to the fact using string. You now have an instant class display that doubles as a record of your students’ learning!
