Compound words are so much fun!

And now, you can make them even more fun with our new compound word game!

It’s a gamified activity where students will combine two words to form a compound word. If they choose correctly, they see their compound word flower grow. If they make a mistake, they are prompted to try again.

This is perfect for early years classrooms as it reinforces essential reading skills like word recognition and spelling. With our easy-to-use interface and engaging visuals, your students will be excited to learn!

Engage Your Readers with Interactive Compound Word Activities

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your foundational language lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use these compound word activities to enhance learning through guided reading groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above- and below-level learners, and ELL/ESL students, we have a few suggestions for keeping readers on track with these concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Many learners find visual references helpful when trying to grasp and review concepts. Provide students with learning tools like a compound words poster or compound word posters to refresh their memories. Additionally, students can work with a partner to complete the task.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Using the words built throughout the slideshow, have students write sentences using each compound word.

✋ Class Review

Turn this activity into a post-lesson assessment or use it right before a test to give students extra practice. Project the Google Slides to your small group or whole class, and call on students to come up to the board to answer each question.
