Struggling with Teaching Affixes? We Can Help!
We can help! Along with our printable resources, worksheets, task cards, and games covering the concept of affixes, we’ve also created a new digital interactive activity for your students to practise reading, writing, and breaking down words with affixes.
Can You Colour by Number with Words? Absolutely!
This resource can be used in multiple ways. It can be completed in a whole-group learning session by having your students come up to the board to interact with the elements on each slide, or your students can complete it independently.
Each slide features a group of gumballs that have lost their colour! Students must use the paint can tool in Google Slides to recolour each gumball according to a colour key. On each slide, students must
- Read a word containing a prefix, suffix, or both.
- Break apart the word, determine if it has a prefix or suffix, and use the paint can to colour the gumball correctly.
- Type the word into the table by breaking it into its prefix, base word and/or suffix.

Assign this interactive activity to Google Classroom. Please be sure to open in Edit mode, not Presentation mode. Students will use the paint can tool and type responses to complete the activities.
