Has or Have… Which Is Correct?
Subject-verb agreement might not seem like the most exciting grammatical concept to teach your students, but it can make the difference between a well-structured sentence and one that sounds rather odd!
This set of 24 task cards has been designed by our team to help your students learn when to use ‘has’ or ‘have’ in a sentence so that the subject and verb agree. Students read each sentence, decide whether ‘has’ or ‘have’ should be used to make the subject and verb agree, then record their answer on the recording sheet. With this low-prep activity, teachers can make grammar lessons more dynamic and effective!
This set of has or have task cards downloads as a full-colour PDF or editable Google Slides file. Both files contain:
- Instruction page
- 24 x task cards
- Student recording sheet
- Answer sheet
Multiple Uses for These Has and Have Task Cards
While these task cards make a great independent learning activity, they can be used in lots of other ways, too! Read on for some suggestions from our teacher team:
- Interactive Whiteboard Challenge – Display the task cards on an interactive whiteboard, then have students take turns coming up to the board to circle ‘has’ or ‘have’ in the sentence.
- Scoot Game – Place the task cards around the room and have students move from card to card, answering each one before rotating. This adds an element of movement to the lesson, which increases engagement.
- Small Group Rotations – Use the task cards as a literacy rotation activity where students collaborate and discuss their answers before checking them. Peer engagement helps students stay motivated and on-task.
