Research and report on animals that hibernate, migrate, and adapt with an animal adaptations project.
How Do Migrating & Hibernating Animals Survive the Seasons?
If you’re undertaking Life Science in your classroom, this 18-page project kit would make a perfect unit-long project, or a great summative assessment piece to end your unit.
During this project, students pick an animal to research from the 10 options and read the passage on their chosen animal. Students then fill out a graphic organizer all about their animal, recording their learnings.
Students then progress to the “Can You Guess My Animal?” sheet, adding clues (facts) about their animal. They then share clues with a partner and have the partner guess their animal.
Facilitate the switching of partners until students have learned about the 9 other animals.
Finally, have the students partner up and complete an animal comparison map showing how their two animals are alike and different. Complete the cut/paste sorting worksheet for all 10 animals.
This project resource download includes:
- A set of directions,
- 10 informational passages about animals,
- a grading rubric, and
- 5 project pages (1 with an answer key)
Through this activity, students will learn that seasonal changes don’t only affect human life, but that they also impact animals. They will learn the ways in which one chosen animal survives the changing conditions throughout the year.
