How to Extend This Homophones Activity

Looking for ways to use this resource to further explore homophones with your students? Check out some great ideas from our experienced teacher team!

  • Homophones Story – Have your students write a short story that includes all 20 words from one of the word searches. In doing this, the students must demonstrate their understanding of the correct spelling and meaning for each homophone used. This is a great way for teachers to check each student’s knowledge!
  • Draw the Pair – Have your students draw visual representations of some of the pairs of homophones from the word search. For example, they could draw a moose (the animal) and a mousse (the desert) to show they understand the difference between the two words.
  • Dictionary Work – Have your students look up and write down the definitions of some of the pairs of homophones from the word search. Not only will this solidify their knowledge of the homophones and their meanings, but it also provides great practice for locating words in a dictionary!
