Help your little learners write a procedural text using these handy "How to" writing prompt worksheets.
Procedural Writing for the Early Years
This set of procedural writing prompts has been designed especially for younger students. Each worksheet in this resource provides the student with a thought-provoking “How To” question prompt. Students will draw the steps needed to complete the process, then use the lines provided to write their own procedural text. The resource includes engaging informational prompts such as:
- How to Make a Sandwich
- How to Wash Your Hands
- How to Brush Your Teeth
- How to Build a Snowman
The resource includes ten worksheets covering ten different how-to procedural writing topics.
Differentiate These Procedural Writing Worksheets
To challenge students needing acceleration, why not have them make an instructional video to accompany their procedural text? They could use a small device to record themselves “performing” their procedure.
For struggling writers, provide a list of action verbs that could be used at the start of each step in the procedure. These students could also benefit from talking about their writing before beginning and generating a bank of words or details that they could include.
Download to Access These Procedural Writing Prompts
Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to access either the easy-print PDF or the editable Google Slides version of this resource.
Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through one prompt as a class. Have your students write their paragraphs in their workbooks.
