Improper Fractions Activity Cards for Varied Practise
Our multi-use Improper Fractions Activity Cards are a great addition to an introductory improper fractions unit. They are also useful in older grades to review converting from improper fractions to mixed numbers.

These cards can be used in whole group, guided groups, or individually— the sky’s the limit to how many activities you and your students can create! We recommend printing them on cardboard and laminating them for longevity.
Using Our Improper Fraction Cards
There are many possible activities for mixed numbers and improper fractions that you can complete with these cards! Here are just a few ideas to get you and your students started:
- Guess My Fraction: Students partner up, and both take an improper fraction card. They then give each other hints about their card, such as “My numerator is a multiple of 5” or “My fraction is between 3 and 4.” Students continue to give clues until both have guessed the other’s fraction.
- Fraction Pictionary: One student chooses an improper fraction card and must draw a visual representation of the fraction (e.g., pie charts, bar models) on the board without using numbers. The other students guess the improper fraction.
- Fraction Scavenger Hunt: Hide the cards around the room and ask students to find them. When they find a card, they must write down the equivalent mixed number before moving on. The student who finds and converts the most within a time limit wins.
