One key learning objective of the primary Maths curriculum is to have students recognise and classify familiar three-dimensional objects using their features (faces, edges and vertices). To make this task easier, we’ve designed a handy set of classroom posters you can display in your room while you are teaching this important geometric concept. These make a great reference point for your students while they are learning the names and properties of these common objects.

Which 3D Shapes Are Included?

This set of classroom posters includes ten common 3D shapes that your students will commonly encounter when learning about three-dimensional objects. The posters show the name of each 3D shape, a visual image of the shape and a description of the properties of the shapes (faces, edges and vertices). The 3D shapes included are:

• cube
• sphere
• cone
• cylinder
• rectangular prism
• triangular prism
• triangular based pyramid
• square based pyramid
• hexagonal prism
• pentagonal based pyramid.

How to Make the Most of This 3D Shapes Classroom Display

This set of posters has been created to support Maths instruction in your classroom. You may wish to use the posters in the following ways:

1. Print the posters on A3 paper and display them in your classroom as a reminder of the various types of 3D shapes.
2. Print the whole set of posters on a single page for students to paste into their workbooks.
