Input-Output Tables Practise for a Cartesian Planes Unit

Our Input – Output Tables and Graphing Task Cards make a great addition to your Cartesian planes unit. This resource helps your students master Cartesian graphing standards by reviewing how to read, interpret, and graph points from input-output tables. Students can demonstrate their knowledge in all standard areas with this activity.

This resource includes:

  • 20 task cards
  • Recording sheets
  • Answer keys
  • Instructions

This input – output tables activity is a great addition to stations but would also work well for fast finishers, independent practise, or as a “scoot” activity.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

If there are students who need a bit of support, encourage them to reference previous assignments, posters, or anchor charts to assist them with this activity. Additionally, students can complete this activity in a 1-on-1 or guided group setting.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, have them create a “How to” guide or comic strip explaining how to graph on the Cartesian plane.

🛴 Scoot Activity

Place the cards around the room in numerical order and give each student a recording sheet. Assign students or pairs to a starting point card. Give students time to review the card and record their answers in the corresponding space on their paper. Students will rotate to the next card when you say, “SCOOT!” Continue in this manner until students return to their starting point.

👋 Exit Ticket

Use these cards as a formative assessment after your lesson. Pick a random assortment of cards and project them on the board for the whole class to see. Students can record their answers on a sheet of paper, sticky note, or their notebook.

Easily Print and Prep!

Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between the PDF and Google Slides versions of this activity. Both colour and black-and-white versions are provided.

Print on cardboard for added durability and longevity. To keep the task cards out of pockets or from under desks, punch a hole in the corner of each to place them on a binder ring.

Sustainability Tip: Print a few recording sheets on cardboard and slip them into dry-erase sleeves. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse them.
