Calculate and match the perimeters of all 16 shapes on the board to reveal a perimeter puzzle mystery picture.

An Engaging Perimeter Game for Kids!

If you’re looking for an engaging digital alternative to typical perimeter worksheets, then look no further than Teach Starter’s interactive perimeter puzzle!

By playing this perimeter game, students will get plenty of practice calculating the perimeter of a variety of single and composite shapes, such as squares, rectangles, triangles and more!

This perimeter game consists of a baseboard made up of 16 squares. Each square contains a shape. The students are required to choose a shape, and then calculate its perimeter. Then, they’ll find the puzzle piece with the matching perimeter measurement and drag it over the shape. As they move the pieces into the correct place, a mystery picture will reveal itself!

Measurements involve a combination of metric and customary units to ensure that students become familiar with both systems of measurement.

This perimeter game can be played during independent work time, in your math center or as a whole-class activity by calling students up to the board to complete one piece at a time.

By completing this activity, students show they can use the correct mathematical formula to find the perimeter of a shape with whole number dimensions.

Perimeter Game Benefits for Students

Did you know that completing puzzles provides multiple benefits to students (in addition to teaching content)? Some of these benefits include:

  1. Persistence and Patience – Completing a puzzle requires patience and persistence. Students learn the value of not giving up and working through challenges—a valuable life lesson.
  2. Visual-Spatial Skills – Puzzles improve students’ visual-spatial skills as they analyze shapes, sizes and patterns. This can have a positive impact on their overall math and science abilities.
  3. Enhanced Problem-Solving – Puzzles challenge students to approach problems from different angles. They learn to break complex tasks into smaller, manageable parts.

And there you have it! This perimeter game will teach your students much more than how to calculate perimeter!
