Unit Fraction Lesson Planning Resources

This pack of worksheets has been created to use when introducing your students to the concept of unit fractions. Each worksheet shows a visual explanation as well as a simple definition of the following unit fractions:

  • Halves
  • Thirds
  • Fourths
  • Fifths
  • Sixths
  • Eighths
  • Tenths

Each worksheet also has students picking shapes that show each of the unit fractions, shading each unit fraction and partition a shape based on the unit fraction.

Unit Fraction Worksheets

This set of worksheets is the perfect addition to your lessons on unit fractions, they’re visually simple for your students to easily see what each unit fraction is the focus on each sheet. You can print all seven worksheets and create a worksheet pack the students can work through each time they are taught a unit fraction. The best thing about these worksheets is that you can differentiate the worksheets by giving more or less to your students based on their unit fraction knowledge.

The structured nature of these worksheets means you can facilitate gradual progression of learning, starting with basic unit fractions and advancing to more complex unit fractions. This scaffolding allows students to build their understanding incrementally, gradually mastering unit fractions before tackling more challenging fraction concepts. As students work through the exercises, they receive continual reinforcement of their learning, which boosts confidence and solidifies comprehension.
