Kids’ Chemistry – Matter and Change Made Easy!

Teaching young students about changes in matter can feel like a big challenge, but with the right resources, this abstract concept becomes exciting and easily accessible! The Teach Starter Team has been hard at work creating a range of hands-on activities, visual aids, and engaging lessons designed to help kids understand the basics of matter and the changes it can undergo. From solid, liquid, and gas states to physical and chemical changes, our library is home to a wide variety of resources to help you teach these complex topics so students can explore and understand them confidently.

Exploring Chemistry: Matter and Change Task Cards

This printable set of 24 task cards is designed to help students sharpen their skills in identifying states of matter and understanding the changes it undergoes. Each task card presents a multiple-choice question focused on a form of matter and the many types of transformations that occur between these states. 

These Matter and Change Task Cards are perfect for independent practise, small groups, or review sessions. This resource includes a recording sheet for students to track their answers and an answer key for easy grading or self-checking. Some concepts related to matter and change that students will encounter are:

  • Freezing
  • Condensation
  • Physical changes in matter
  • Chemical changes in matter
  • And more!
